What exactly is E-Reg?

E-Reg is an internet based web-service (SOAP - Simple Object Access Protocol) that allows the citizens of your community to effectively renew their motor vehicles on-line.

How does it work?

Through the E-Reg web-service, data necessary to calculate the vehicle registration is uploaded to the web server and requests to renew (Logs) are downloaded from the same server. These logs represent requests by your citizens for a vehicle renewal. Once these Logs are downloaded, you process the registrations as if the customer were at your window. All data is synchronized via SSL (Secure Socket Layer) with 128 bit encryption. Further, there is no personal information uploaded to or maintained by the server relative to vehicle registrations. There are no addresses stored on the server.

How do citizens pay for their registrations?

E-Reg provides two payment options.

  1. E-Check - Customers provide bank routing and account information - Town/City clerk prints physical checks and deposits as if user were at window or processed as mail-in.
  2. Mail-In - Customers mail-in their checks and are handled by the Town/City clerk as normal

How much does it cost?

There are currently three cost options for your consideration.

  1. No Cost - Interware receives a convince fee of $1.50 per registration
  2. Partial Subsidy - Interware receives an annual fee paid by the community. This fee varies based on the number of motor vehicles in your community. Customers pay a reduced fee per registration / transaction.
  3. Full Subsidy - Interware receives an annual fee and the customers pays no fee for using E-Reg .

What do I need to accept and print E-Checks?

By far and away this is the most popular method of payment. To do so, you need a laser printer with MICR toner and MICR Fonts. If you do not have a laser printer or want to dedicate a printer to the task, then we recommend an HP 1012. The printer is fast and very reasonably priced. You will also need an initial stock of checks. IDC offers an E-Check bundle which includes everything you need. You can purchase the E-Check bundle for $595.00 here.

Is it safe?

Yes - E-Reg is completely save and secure. All synchronization is handled via SSL as is the entire E-Reg process. E-Reg, which is a service of EB2GOV.com, uses a 128 bit certificate ensuring complete security .

How does this compare to the State's Compass Initiative?

There are many differences between E-Reg and Compass. The most significant difference is that E-Reg is a completely local option with no state involvement. Town and City clerks complete their transactions as they do currently. E-Reg DOES NOT generate registrations - that is left entirely to the clerk. There are many other important differences as well. You may wish to download a more detailed comparison.

Does it work with all vendor provided software?

E-Reg was designed to be used by any interested city/town or software vendor. This is why it was designed using SOAP. With Interware's ClerkWorks system, the process is completely integrated. With other software, either vendor supplied or developed in-house, an interface can be written to the E-Reg web-service and integrated into any system. Interested vendors or cities/towns can retrieve the WSDL file and write an interface in their own system. We are more than happy to work with any vendor regarding an interface with E-Reg. Alternatively, a Synchronization Only version of ClerkWorks is available for purchase or lease.

Is E-Reg compatible with MAAP?

Once again, compatibility with MAAP is predicated on the software being used to complete the registration.
